Thing Tracking #22

I tried a long time ago to use overdrive, i found it pretty easy. I ended up placing a hold ojn a title, but never got around to downloading. I shouldn't have been surprised, i don't seem to have time to read a book why should i have time to listen to a book. I might give it another try down the road.

Thing Tracking # 23

Facebook. what can i say, i actually joined up over the summer I've been on for a while. It's fun, i've reconnected with some highschool friends, one who was an exchange student from Australia. I have all sorts of apps and groups on there.

Thing Tracking # 21

For Thing 21 we are supposed to look at adding podcasts to our blog lines account. I found a couple of genealogy podcasts I subscribed to "the genealogy guys" and two others. I think you can see them here http://www.bloglines.com/public/kmemorrison, I used bloglines to find the feeds and it was really easy.

Thing tracking #20

Ok, so i cheated a little on this thing. I have looked around youtube before, so instead i decided to upload a video to youtube, which i did, But i also see that i can add a video to my blog. So, making his internet dancing debut, is Ethan "lord of the dance " Morrison. Here is the Youtube link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF9Dtq6MdQU

Thing Tracking #19

For 19 we are to try out some of the award winning sites. I noticed that Rollyo and Flikr are on the list and I have already "explored them". But that's cheating a bit, not in the spirit of the 23 things. I looked at cocktail builder http://www.cocktailbuilder.com which was under funs stuff. not that i'm a big drinker but at the library our bartending books are almost always checked out/missing. You can with look by ingredient or bu name of drink. I also looked a tht enumber 2 site for funstuff one sentance http://www.onesentence.org/. People try to sum up their life or a story of their life in one sentance. Not particularly useful but kind of interesting.

Thing tracking #18

For thing 18 we are supposed to go to Zoho Writer and try it out. I made a simple document, no biggie. It looks very much like MS word similar icons. I think i'll just stick with word. I don't see the need for zoho writer...other than it's free. I have access to word at work and home and a trusty flash drive to save my documents. Although once, i thought lost my flash drive what a disaster that would have been. So zoho writer would be good for that too, backup my documents so i never lose them.

Thing Tracking # 9

Ok for this thing I'm supposed to blog about anything technology related. I guess i'll just talk about Flikr. I like it, i think i might actually use it. I think it might be fun for my friends/family to go to my flikr page and see the new pictures of E (Ethan, who just turned 2 last week). The only negative thing i have to say is that at least for purposes here, meaning bcltlc2.0, howmany email accounts do i really need? I signed up for gmail so i could use blogger. then i create an account on bloglines (which by the way i haven't checked in WEEKS) then i need a yahoo account for flikr. I can barely keep up with my work email and home email. Oh well, still I'm having fun now that I have time to catch up on my 23 things. Which as of this posting I am officially caught up!

Thing Tracking # 8

I have mashed up a photo. Check it out.http://www.flickr.com/photos/14842201@N06/?saved=1

Thing Tracking # 7

Better late than never, right? I posted a picture on flikr. here's the URL http://www.flickr.com/photos/14842201@N06/?saved=1 I hope this is what i was supposed to do for this exercise.

Thing Tracking #17

Wiki Wiki, fast fast I'm done with thing #17. Guess what that means I actually completed a week on time. YEAH, I'm finally eligible for a prize...hope its a good one.

Thing Tracking #16

Wikis, I have nothing against wikis. I think they can be a great resource. But as i can see from the "Library Success:best practices" wiki some people just have to go and cause trouble. I also read a while ago about some problems with people posting false info on wikipedia. A good resource if used with caution.

Thing Tracking #15

Rollyo! well I had put this one off from last week figuring it waould take too long but it was very fast and easy to make my own genealogy rollyo. I'm not sure if i'll get into it but it was pretty easy.

Thing Tracking #12

I read "away from Icebergs" by Rick Anderson. I think he makes a valid pont however I don't think Librarys will or should move away completely from print collections. He calls them the "Just incase" collection. While some things are better electronically, like medical info. Somethings are better in print. SLower learners like me need to take home a book and read at leasure, most likely exceeding my renewal limit because I still haven't finished the book

Thing tracking #13

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more As you can see I found an image generator. http://www.imagechef.com/ic/make.jsp?tid=Election+Campaign+Button

Thing Tracking #11

So assignmnet 11 is to write a post about anything and TAG it. So I guess i will blog about my favorite hobby. Genealogy. It started when I was little and wanted to know where i was really from (perhaps so I could move back there or something) But it turns out my family has been here so long that I really am from here. 300 some odd years

Thing Tracking #10

Ok, i'm a little behind on my things, hopefully i will catch up soon. So I checked out the del.ic.io.us tutorial(or where ever those dots go). Looks interesting, i may make my own account. I think that it would be a useful tool on the reference desk computers. Everyone saves things to the favorites and it gets so junked up. Especially when more than one person saves the same site but renames it. Think i'll try to get my co workers on to the site.

Thing Tracking, #6

So for thing 6 we are supposed to find some "useful" library feeds and post to our blog. So does that mean I post to this blog or to my bloglines blog. I have done both just incase. I say "Useful" feeds because if i forget to check my bloglines account to read all of my feeds then it's not very useful. Here's my bloglines blog http://www.bloglines.com/blog/kmemorrison and here's for thing 5 my feeds link (i hope i've got this right) http://www.bloglines.com/public/kmemorrison
here' goes

Thing Tracking, #5

Ok So i've been to bloglines and set up some feeds and posted on my bloglines blog. Not really sure if RSS is for me. Seems like information overload can occur really easy, that's why I only signed up for a few feeds...start out slow and see how it goes

Thing Tracking, #2

I just took the online LifeLong learning tutorial. I guess the easiest habit for me is teaching/mentoring others. I do that with the genealogy classes and tutorials that I do here at the library. The hardest habit for me is probably using new technology. I'm one of the only people I know(besides my parents) that doesn't have a "real" cell phone, we only have prepaid plans, no text messaging, no pictures, I don't even know the number to give it out to people and if i did give out the number it's kind of hard to call me on it when it's turned off 99% of the time.

My wedding cake, Yummmm

Thing Tracking, # 3

So, I have registered for "the learning challenge and Now I have completed thing 3, I have set up my blog. Things are speeding right along, somebody slow me down
